Hario V60 Scale Review (for measuring your drip coffee)
How much ground coffee do you need to brew your morning joe? One scoop? How much even is a ‘scoop?’
If you are among the many coffee lovers who use the “eyeball” or “scoop” methods to measure out your coffee grounds, you are missing out on more than you know. True consistency requires a weighted, rather than volumetric measurement, to control for the different density of the coffee grounds. (1)
The best chefs, bakers, chemists and jewellers all use scales to weigh their stuff. This is because they require both accuracy and precision.
The HARIO V60 Drip Coffee Scale is an excellent and beloved tool for accurately measuring out the right amount of coffee for any brew. Check out our full review below to learn more.

The HARIO V60 Drip Coffee Scale Review
HARIO products have developed quite a name for themselves among coffee lovers around the world, and the V60 Drip Coffee Scale is no different. This scale is used by baristas and home brewers alike to hit the mark on dosing for any brew method you can imagine.
Precision – 5/5
The HARIO V60 Drip Scale is a precise tool that provides accurate readings to the 0.1 gram – similar to the Bonavita scale. Given that the purpose of a scale is to improve the consistency of your brew, having a precise and reliable scale is a must. The HARIO Drip Scale was designed to work consistently for even the most finicky among us, and it shows.
Size – 5/5
Though the HARIO is a small, compact scale, it is still large and sturdy enough for bigger brewers like the Chemex. The scale runs on 2 AAA batteries that fit into the battery compartment on the bottom of the scale. (2)
At 19 cm long and 12 cm wide, it is easy to store the scale in a drawer when it’s not in use.
Style – 4/5
Equipped with two buttons (one for On/Off/Tare and the other for starting and stopping the timer) and a simple digital screen, the scale comes in both black and silver. HARIO’s products are generally quite minimalist, showing a dedication to simple elegance, and this coffee scale is no different.

Special Features – 4/5
What really sets the HARIO coffee scale apart is its optimized timer for pour over brews (or any manual brew for that matter). With the combined efficacy of the timer and the scale, you get consistently delicious coffee from dosage to infusion. The automatic shut-off feature engages after 5 minutes of inactivity, though it is disengaged any time the timer is in use.
Though basic, each of these features makes the scale quite easy to use.
Things we didn’t like:
- Built-in timer for pour over brewing
- Attractive minimalist style
- Precise to 0.1 g
Things we liked:
- Doesn’t use a rechargeable battery
- Relatively expensive
Do Not Buy the HARIO V60 Drip Scale If…

You want something that is truly the most cost-effective option – The HARIO is a great option and gets you excellent value for your money, but we still understand that it may be more than some people want to pay for a coffee scale. For a more budget-friendly option, check out the Etekcity Digital Scale.
You want a smart, high-tech scale from the future – This coffee scale by HARIO certainly has features that other scales lack, but it is still not the highest-tech option available. For those coffee lovers looking for a new-age coffee scale, we recommend the Acacia Pearl Brewing Scale, which has Bluetooth connectivity to import data about your coffee to a variety of apps supported by Acaia. You prefer a rechargeable scale – The Timemore Black mirror coffee scale is a better choice if you prefer charging your gadget over buying batteries. Like the Hario Drip Scale, this scale is also great for pour-over brewing.
The Verdict
The HARIO V60 Drip Scale is a top-notch coffee scale sure to help you hit the marks on consistent dosing for your coffee. The timer, delayed automatic shut-off feature, and precise measurements all make it easy to use and love, despite it not being the flashiest scale on the market.
