Customizability – 2.5/5

If that’s all you are expecting from your coffee brewer, then you won’t be disappointed and you should go for this budget-friendly model.

However, when it comes to customizing your brew, the Keurig K15 loses points because it undoubtedly offers fewer options compared to other Keurig machines (for example, it does not have a Strong Brew button nor temperature control, and it has fewer cup size options than most models).

Still, you can choose between a 6, 8 or 10 ounce (175, 235, 295 ml) cup of coffee as well as hundreds of types of K-Cups, meaning you can simply get different flavours by buying different capsules. It’s also compatible with the My K-Cup universal reusable coffee filter, which we strongly recommend that you buy instead of always relying on K-Cups, given their environmental footprint. (1)

‘Make Your Life Easier’ Features – 3/5

While the Keurig K15 might not be very customizable, it does come with a few handy features. First of all, it automatically shuts off after 90 seconds of inactivity, saving you energy and money. (2)

The K15 also has a removable drip tray that facilitates the cleaning process as well as allowing you to use taller mugs or travel mugs, and the K-Cup holder is also removable and easy to clean.

For us, it only loses two points because it lacks features (such as the auto turn on and Hot Water button, for example) that some other Keurig coffee machines offer. Because this machine won’t remind you when it’s time to descale it, you must remember to do it every 3 to 6 months, depending on the concentration of minerals in the water that you use. (3)

Water reservoir – 2/5

Unlike other Keurig coffee makers, the K15 single serve coffee brewer doesn’t come with a water tank that you can fill up on Monday and rely on for the rest of the week, but with a one-cup reservoir instead. While it’s as small as it can get, we think it deserves two stars instead of one because this small water reservoir does enhance its portability and ensures that you always use fresh water.

It also makes it very easy to choose the correct amount for your cup: there are 3 different size indicators to ensure that you are using enough water for the size of coffee you are going for, but there’s also a flashing button that lets you know if you need to add more. It lights up as soon as you turn on the power, to remind you that you must add the water before inserting the K-Cup.

Do not buy the k15 if…

You want to customize your brew more – The K15 is handy if you just want to press a button and have a single cup of coffee, but, if you’d rather be able to brew a stronger coffee, control the water temperature and have more cup sizes to choose from, you might want to look into the Keurig K-Elite or the K-Select instead.

You don’t want to fill up the reservoir every single time – If you’re not too fussed about customizing your cup of joe but you are a bit annoyed at the idea of having to fill up the reservoir before each brew, then this Keurig model is not for you. We think you’d be happier with the Keurig K55 Classic: while it still offers 3 brew sizes and is in a similar price range, it comes with a 1.4-litre reservoir, meaning that you could have a 175 ml cup of coffee a day for a week without having to refill it.

The Verdict: should you buy the K15?

This may not be what you want to hear: we don’t think that the K15 is one of Keurig’s best models. It doesn’t offer a lot of customizable features and many users have complained about the lukewarm coffee temperature and the fact that it doesn’t last very long after repeated use.

But… it’s an OK choice for those who value portability and just want to enjoy a quick cup of coffee every once in a while.
