12 Impressively Creative Coffee Mugs To Inspire Your Mornings
Have you ever heard the saying “a coffee mug is like a window to the soul?” I can’t remember exactly who said it (me everyday), but it’s absolutely true.
We all wear our personalities on our mugs, and some of us need something with a bit more flair than the Plain Jane, stout cylinder that is the staple of so many late-night diners. If you’re one of those people, take a scroll through my list of the 12 most creative coffee mugs of 2016.
#1 — The Sinking Cup
The creative person knows that life is all about perspective, and that sometimes you’ve got to get a different angle before you see the full picture. The creative person also knows how much fun it is to mess with other people’s perspective.
What better gift for the inspired coffee drinker in your life than a coffee cup Dali would be proud of. These half-cups will leave any onlooker feeling like they just witnessed a glitch in the matrix.
#2 — A Cookie Lover’s Mug
It is a well-known scientific fact that coffee improves the flavor of cookies (or is it the other way around?), so why would we separate the two with different tableware? It makes no sense, which is why some brilliant soul has finally given us the coffee mug that we all deserve.
Now you can easily carry your coffee and cookies around wherever you go with only one hand. Dunking has never been so easy or classy.
#3 — A Mug for a Better Morning
One morning, after getting famously drunk at a family get-together, my grandfather woke me up with a lesson I will never forget, something he liked to call “hair of the dog.” He taught me that there is only one tried-and-true hangover cure: spiked coffee.
This convenient mug/flask combo is a must-have for anyone needing a quick pick-me-up after a long night. Besides, nothing says “ready for business” quite like a custom leather flask strap.

#4 — The Spielberg Mug
I have to say that this mug is the most creative method I’ve seen for turning your friend into a human coffee fountain. They’ll be sitting there, peacefully enjoying the delicious cup of coffee you brewed for them, and then, halfway through, a hungry shark inches away from their nose.
This mug is perfect for the creative troublemaker, and it gets bonus points for the retro throwback to a classic horror film.
#5 — For the Environmentalist
Sure, porcelain coffee cups are cool, but they’re also overdone. Eco-friendly design is catching on quickly*, so it’s about time someone came up with a responsibly sourced coffee mug.

This modern-looking cup is made from insulated bioplastics, which are much easier to recycle than conventional plastics. On top of that, its unique handle allows it to balance upside down for quick drying. From material to shape, this is one clever coffee mug.
#6 — The Floating Mug
Gravity be damned, this coffee cup has no time for the arbitrary laws of physics. It’s too busy saving your beloved wood table from frustrating coffee rings.
But no one said practicality had to be boring, which is why this sleek mug looks like something Captain Kirk would saunter onto the bridge of the USS Enterprise with. Whether for yourself or a fellow coffee lover, a mug that floats and costs less than $20 is a steal.
#7 — The Filspresso Mug
Do you love espresso just as much as you love filter coffee? With these cups you won’t need to invest in two sets of coffee cups, because they are perfect for both.
At first glance this may look like your average glass coffee cup, but flip it over and there is another container perfectly sized for a shot of espresso. Additionally, these are double walled glass cups, which keep your coffee hotter for longer.
#8 — No More Lip Burns!
A metal camping mug isn’t the newest thing to hit the hiking trails, but one that won’t burn your lips on that first dreaded sip is a much-needed update. This titanium mug comes with a little plastic cover to keep your sun-chapped lips safe.
In addition, the handle also folds down for easy packing. This is a coffee cup fit for even the most high-tech outdoor adventurer.
#9 — For the Photographer in All of Us
It’s a safe bet that the creative person in your life has a camera stashed away somewhere, if not several. After all, photography and creativity go hand in hand.
What better way to celebrate their passion than with a travel mug that would be right at home in any camera bag. No matter what crazy vantages their camera pulls them to, they will always have fresh coffee with this sealable mug disguised as a zoom lens.
#10 — At the Table is Best Place for Games
OK, technically this isn’t a mug, but a good saucer is almost indispensable to a good espresso (almost). But instead of something to merely adorn your coffee setup, wouldn’t you rather have something to upgrade your whole coffee experience?
With this saucer you can turn those little coffee drops into a fun game by guiding them to the center of a maze. But while twisting and tilting this saucer, don’t forget to drink your espresso before it gets cold!
#11 — The Brilliantly Obvious Cup
A French press built into my coffee cup? Yes please! This is one of those inventions that’s so simple that it leaves you smacking yourself on the head wondering “why didn’t I think of that?”
Let’s face it: some mornings it’s a hassle going through the full French press routine, especially if you’re brewing just for yourself. This stylish coffee cup cuts out the middleman, leaving you with one less thing to worry about.
#12 — Say Goodbye to Messy Coffee Drips
Unfortunately, this coffee mug isn’t for sale yet, but it’s so brilliant I just had to include it in this list. Your notes and work reports are saved because the feared coffee drip will soon be a thing of the past.
This porcelain mug has a thin ditch that encircles its base that is meant to catch any stray drips before they find something important to stain. This means no more coffee rings and no more embarrassment at the weekly meeting.
If you like to think outside the box, there is no reason for you to submit to any standard coffee mug. Setting your mug down on the conference table for the Monday morning meeting should be a declaration of your individuality.
I hope this list helped you find your special mug - it sure gave us a little mug-spiration. Share your thoughts in the comments below, and don’t forget to share these creative coffee mugs with your coffee-loving friends!
