We think that the build of this French press is as premium and as good as it can get.

Your coffee or tea will be piping hot and, since you can use French presses to make cold brew and iced-tea (1), it will also keep them nice and chilled for hours.

Whilst every model has a brushed finish inside, you get to choose the look that you prefer for the outer finish: all sizes of the Frieling French press coffee maker are available in a brushed or mirror polish style. We also like the practical full-length handle and the fact that it’s dishwasher safe (always a relief!).

Compared to other coffee brewers, French presses are quick and practical thanks to this simple mechanism. But we think we can all agree on one thing: the coffee sediments that we get at the bottom of the cup are the most annoying thing about them! How many times have we seen models that claim to give you a sediment-free brew but don’t actually deliver? Well, the Frieling French press does (you’ll have to trust us on this one!).

It uses a patented dual screen made of Italian super-fine mesh: not only does it mean zero sediments, but it also ensures that even more oils are extracted from your coarse coffee grounds, resulting in a richer taste after a quick 4 minute steep in hot water. This stainless steel filter is also rather easy to disassemble, but you won’t even need to do that if you chuck it in the dishwasher.

Whether you are after a portable, travel-friendly model, a medium sized French press or a much bigger one for larger households, you are definitely going to find a Frieling model that meets your coffee needs.

Its largest model is rather big compared to what most French presses offer, as it gives you over a liter of coffee: you definitely won’t have to worry about brewing different batches next time you have friends round!

Value for Money – 3.5/5

The only reasons why it loses points is because it’s more expensive than other models (some of which also include a dual-filter) and yet it’s still made in China, despite the “USA” in its full name. However, we can’t fault the quality of its build and we still think it’s a great investment that you’ll be proud of every time you’ll enjoy a sediment-free cup of joe. By the way, that will be for a while: the Frieling comes with a 5 year warranty but it’s bound to last you much longer than that, as it’s very well-built and, unlike glass French press coffee makers (3), extremely durable (actually, we dare you to break it!).

Do NOT Buy if…

You want to see the extraction process – We can’t really fault the Frieling, but its high-quality stainless steel body results in a potential drawback that might annoy some people: you can’t see your coffee being brewed. If you’re one of those who want to enjoy the “hot water and coffee show” with their eyes before it gets into their mouths, then we think that a model with a glass carafe like the Kona French Press might be a better option for you.

You’re after a more budget-friendly option – We think that the Frieling will definitely pay for itself (just think of all the money that you’ll save from not having to rely on that café on the way to work for your morning coffee!). However, if you like the idea of owning a large French press made of double-walled stainless steel but were after a more budget-friendly option, that’s totally cool. In that case, we recommend the Sterling French press or the Coffee Gator French Press: both coffee makers still come with a double-mesh filter.
