What Size Machine Works For My Home?
Like their price tags, Jura coffee machines come in many different sizes, shapes, and weights. Some can fit snugly into a little condo kitchen; others need their own corner of the room.
Make sure you aren’t going to fall in love with a machine that just doesn’t fit your home.
Is There a Lot of Maintenance Required?
Jura does a really good job when it comes to innovation and convenience. All of their machines have self-cleaning programs that prevent scaling and other issues that are regular challenges with coffee machines.
You will need to make sure that you use the right cleaning product for your machine and that you run the cleaning program regularly to keep it in tip-top coffee shape.
Jura Espresso Machine Lingo
The people at Jura have created a language all their own. To make life simpler, we thought we’d interpret some of the more… ahem… interesting terms they use and explain what they really mean!
“The Aroma+ Grinder”
“Aroma” is a coffee tribe word that describes how your grinds influence the quality of your coffee. The Aroma settings are illustrated by a picture of coffee beans under the “Aroma” profile in the settings, as displayed on the screen.
This indicates how strong your brew will be due to the fineness of the grind. Typically you get a choice of 1-5 settings – our recommendation is to start at the lowest and experiment. While Jura grinders may not always be the same in each machine, these days most of them have, at a minimum, the Aroma+ Grinder.
And no matter what, Jura grinders tend to be quick, quiet, and treat the coffee beans with respect and love.
“IPBAS”
Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS) makes great coffee – but it sounds like a chronic disease that creates embarrassing body noises! The short of it is that this process adds a small amount of water to the coffee prior to brewing.
You do this all the time with things like pour over coffee, by putting in a bit of water to puff up the ground coffee, thereby pre-infusing them a little. Thankfully, it’s not as complicated as it sounds!
“PEP”
Another acronym – but this time, the actual name sounds like the cure to the aforementioned disease: Pulse Extraction Process. It is an advanced technology that allows for extraction in half the time, by rushing hot water through the coffee to pre-infuse it.
“CLARIS Filter System”
Even though it also has a weird name (although not as weird), this is a feature you will love. It is the anti-scaling technology that filters out hard minerals and stops calcium deposits from building up on the heating component.
“Fine Foam Technology”
Perhaps the engineers at Jura have a collective sense of humor. The name Fine Foam Technology sounds like it should be walking the red carpet or something, all dressed up in sequins.
What it really means is that it froths the milk twice, in separate chambers – and then slowly runs the compacted milk foam into your drink – thus the fine foam part. It has a creamy, delicate consistency.
“IWS (Intelligent Water Systems)”
What is it with all the acronyms? And what makes it intelligent – did this water system graduate from Harvard? Is it Mensa material?
The name notwithstanding, this is a great feature. Intelligent Water System is detection technology that runs internal tests based on your water (how hard it is, etc) and makes sure everything is in tip-top shape. If not, it figures out what needs to happen and notifies you of maintenance that needs to be done, such as when it’s time to change the filters, run a cleaning cycle, etc.
“TFT Display”
The TFT (short for Thin Film Transistor) is the display screen you use to run the coffee machine. It is paired with a Rotary Switch which lets you customize settings. This feature lets you choose from all of the specialty drinks available and – like magic – you press the button and you get the espresso beverage you are dreaming of.
“Bypass Doser”
The Bypass Doser is a small chamber that lets you bypass the regular brewing process – where you already have beans in the hopper to make your espresso.
You can use this to switch coffee types – like when that decaf person in your life wants a coffee while you were just about to make your own caffeinated brew. Or in the evening if you want a coffee, but know that you’d better go decaf.
Jura Vs. ‘X’ – Some Common Comparisons That We Need To Clear Up
Comparison shopping is a good way to find out what espresso machine is right for you. It’s good to understand how different brands stand up to each other.
- Jura vs Delonghi – Delonghi is a great brand – especially if you are just starting your great-coffee-at-home journey. It has a range of affordable coffee machines, but overall Jura is of higher quality with a much larger range of features. However, that does come with a higher price tag. Jura is more for the dedicated coffee connoisseur, while Delonghi is for someone who simply wants good coffee at home. Except – and there is always an exception or two – while the Jura 8 vs Delonghi would be a tough comparison, the Delonghi Magnifica vs Jura might be worth comparing. The Magnifica is one of the few from Delonghi that can live up to a Jura coffee machine – and its price tag reflects that.
- Jura vs Gaggia – Gaggia is also a great brand and is worth a look. Some of their machines are comparable in both features and price.
- Jura vs Krups – Jura hands down make better quality machines that make better espressos and coffees. Krups focuses on offering affordable espresso and coffee machines. If Jura is way out of your budget, then these Krups coffee machines may be better choices for your home.
A look at the 10 Best Jura Coffee Machines

This is a high-end item. It is important to keep in mind that you can get a refurbished Jura Z6 as well. While more and more of the 17 coffee machines now have its Pulse Extraction Process, the Z6 was one of the first. It gives you exceptional espresso and barista-quality crema.
And, it has a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use milk system. You can make your latte extra hot or make a cappuccino with drier milk foam. There are 10 different settings for milk and froth, all at the touch of a button.
It also comes with the Intelligent Water System, as well as the RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chip that lets you know when your filter needs to be replaced.
It’s worth considering a refurbished Jura Z6 – by going the refurbished route, you can save a bit of dough and still get a great machine.
The Z6 is best suited for coffee lovers with a large budget, a need for multiple coffee options, and a big counter.
While it makes a range of delicious coffee beverages, unless you’re an A-list celebrity (for whom this would be chump change) or you live so far away from a coffee shop that you NEED this – you’d better make sure you are going to use it enough to justify the price tag.

2. Jura E8 – Runner Up

You can adjust your brew strength and temperature with the touch of a button, and the LED screens walk you through the process of what to do, when to do it, and what is going on with your coffee. It also has Jura’s spectacular Aroma G3 Grinder and Pulse Extraction Process for the richest and most flavorful espresso.
This machine is stylish and productive. It’s best suited for the great-coffee-at-home tribe member with a coffee-loving partner who wants a fantastic cup of coffee every time, but who doesn’t want all of the hassle and effort of a less-than super-automatic coffee and espresso machine.

3. Jura D6 – Best Value

The D6 is a newer Jura model that was added to the line-up as a less expensive alternative to the popular E line. It keeps the same attractive style and high-tech features, like the P.E.P and Easy Cappuccino frother, but uses a plain text display and Rotary Switch in place of the color screen to keep costs low.
It offers six one-touch specialty coffees, each of which is fully customizable. However, if you’re a latte lover, be aware that the D6 is more of a cappuccino machine. It excels at producing an airy milk froth rather than a creamy microfoam.
Despite its affordability, we were pleased to see the D6 still includes Jura’s patented Intelligent Water System. This system helpfully monitors your water quality and alerts you when it’s time to replace your filters.
4. Jura ENA Micro 5

The ENA Micro 5 brings you double the deliciousness with the ability to make two shots at once.
This Jura coffee and espresso machine is quite similar to the ENA Micro 1 – with the added benefit of being able to make a double shot with one press of a button (or if you are kind and like to share – two single shots). It is a small, sleek machine – and while not flashy (it won’t be the centerpiece of your kitchen, but it’s not an eyesore either), it has a nice, if unimpressive, look.
It is an easy-to-use machine and makes great coffee at the touch of a button. And, like all Jura machines, it comes with a good quality burr grinder, which we all know is important for the quality of your coffee. It is a bit pricier than the ENA 1 – so you better make sure you need two shots at once if you are going to spend that kind of money.
The ENA Micro 5 is best suited for those who want two espressos made at once (roommates, couples, people with a neighbor who drops by all the time). It’s for small spaces and if you are a latte lover, it’s likely not for you.
5. Jura ENA Micro 90

You’ve heard of farm to table, right? Well, think of the ENA Micro 90 as coffee bean to beverage. The ENA Micro 90 is a step up from others in the ENA Micro Line – and it is more sophisticated, which is good because it also has a higher price tag than the <90 numbers in the line.
It has an Aroma G3 grinder which is twice as fast as the other grinders in the line. It’s quieter and has six fineness adjustments so it can create a grind that works for the beans you are using, and for the taste you want. And it is the only coffee machine in this line with Pulse Extraction Process (PEP).
Typically found in more expensive Jura machines, Pulse Extraction Process (PEP) pulses water through your ground coffee in short bursts to extract increased intensity and aroma. This makes a deep, thicker crema for espresso and gives regular coffee a deeper, richer flavor.
It also has 10 coffee strength settings – meaning you can be specific about how you want your coffee. And it has a bypass doser for pre-ground – which is awesome for that one friend (we all have one) who insists on decaf (really, dude – what’s the point of drinking coffee if it’s decaf?).
It has nine programmable drink buttons that will make you a range of drinks from espressos to macchiatos. And it has a milk frother. Hooray for choice! This beauty creates a fine micro milk foam that is both delicate and substantial. It prompts you to do a rinse after making a milk-based beverage – and you can do it with just the push of a button!
This is a great machine best suited for coffee-lovers who want quite a few options, along with being able to make kick-ass espresso and coffee drinks from a single button.
6. Jura A1

This is where Jura introduces Pulse Extraction Process (PEP) into the more basic Jura line. PEP makes amazing coffee and that makes this machine worth the upgrade from an Ena Micro 1. It also has the multi-level Aroma G3 grinder – and we all know how important a good grinder is to making great coffee.
This is a surprisingly simple coffee maker that will make a good, complex shot of espresso with one touch. It has the sleek, compact Jura style and will fit in just about any kitchen. Without a milk frother built in, this machine is best suited for a coffee purist who prefers their coffee straight up.

It has Pulse Extraction Process (PEP) brewing and seven different drink settings, and they are only the press of a button away! Selecting and customizing your drink is easy with the full-color TFT display.
The E6 is best suited for the serious coffee fan who is willing to invest in great espresso. Plus, wants the convenience of one-touch brewing. Additionally, the ability to control it via an app will appeal to techies. Finally, it offers enough coffee drink choices to work in a small office or busy home.

The Giga 6 is as fancy as it gets from Jura. This is the absolute top of the line, with more features than you could shake a stick at. It would be the very rare home user that would get their money’s worth out of this model, but it’s the perfect choice for a busy office full of coffee lovers.
It offers 28 different coffee drinks. Sure, it’s nothing compared to the 43 pre-programmed drinks the Jura Giga W3 Professional can make, but it’s a great number since some of these dirnk aren’t available with lower-end Jura machines. That’s because unlike most models, the Giga 6 has three different brewing methods available. It can make a single espresso as easily as it can brew a pot of coffee, and it can even make cold brew!
What makes the Giga line so great for offices is that it essentially doubles every aspect of the Z line. That means you get two grinders, two pumps, and two milk frothing systems. You can prepare two different specialty coffees at the same time, even using two different coffee beans. Count on this machine to eliminate any and all coffee-related arguments at your workplace!

The Verdict
In the end, it’s all about budget, personal taste, and preferences. Any Jura machine in your home will make great coffee. And it’s always a good day when you can start your morning with an excellent cup of coffee.
At the top of the price range is the Jura Z6, one of the brand’s most advanced machines. Sure, you’ll pay a pretty penny for it, but if you want all the bells and whistles Jura offers, this model is the way to go.
The Jura E8 is in the middle of the price range, and it provides a variety of options for the customization of your coffee, which you can even control with an app. The nice balance of features and price offered by this model is why it has long been Jura’s best seller.
The Jura D6 sits in the lower half of the Jura price range, but unlike the other inexpensive models, it includes a milk frothing system. That’s why we think it offers great value. If you’re after a great cappuccino at an affordable price, look no further.
