How to Make a Maple Latte
This recipe makes two servings; however, you may want to double it. It’s that good.
NOTE - You can also use coconut or almond milk, but it does influence the taste a little
Before we go on to the “how to” – let’s chat about maple syrup for a moment.
Along with good espresso (which I am assuming you want because you’re here… on a coffee website!), using good maple syrup is just as important.
PRO TIP - DON’T use maple flavored syrup. That’s just sad...and so wrong. And it won’t do this drink justice.
Don’t know much about maple syrup?
Check out this information. It may turn you into a fan!
Step #1. Make the Espresso
Make your favorite espresso.
If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can make it without one. But then – maybe you are thinking about buying one.
There is plenty of information here about some great super-automated espresso machines.
And we all know that life is better with a good espresso machine in your kitchen. Even better when the machine does everything short of drinking the coffee for you!
Step #2. Froth Your Milk
Heat and froth your milk. If you have an espresso machine, there may be a milk frother on the machine. Of course, if you have a latte machine, this would be easily solved (check our review of the best latte machines here).
If you don’t have a specific tool to do this, you can heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat and use an immersion blender or even a whisk (which takes a bit of effort and elbow grease) to create a good froth.
As easy as this step is, it’s also an important one. The hot, frothed milk brings the texture to the drink.
Pay attention to this step.
Froth the milk and make sure that it is hot, but not boiling. It will make your maple latte taste that much better.
Step #3. Mix It Up
Pour the espresso into a mug and then top it up with the hot frothed milk.
Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla extract.
You can also reverse the order of this step – putting in the maple syrup and vanilla extract first, then adding in the hot frothed milk.
Pouring the frothed milk first lets a hint of the flavors of the maple syrup and vanilla run through the milk, which adds the aroma and taste of the drink.
Step #4. Plop on that Whipped Cream
This is always a fun – and optional – step.
Put the whipped cream onto the drink. You can make your own or use the real whipped cream you can get in the grocery store.
Whipped cream will make this a bit richer, so if that’s not your jam – just skip this step.
Step #5. Sprinkle on the Cinnamon
Take a pinch of cinnamon and sprinkle it over the top. Cinnamon’s sweet bite works well with the rich maple syrup.
Step #6. Enjoy!
Now, sit back and enjoy.
While many might see this as a winter beverage, it can be enjoyed all year long. After all, it’s always the right season for maple syrup.
Enjoy Your Maple Latte!
