Oxo Coffee Maker

This Oxo Coffee Maker is a work of art. If you are looking to consistently brew excellent coffee with a sleek, modern coffee machine, then look no further.

This brewer is certified by the SCA (Speciality Coffee Association of America), proving its ability to make a great cup of coffee. It's also one of our favourite brewers, and continually makes it into our best coffee maker picks.

Decide how much coffee you want to brew, and the machine handles the rest.

It knows exactly how much water to use, keeps it at the perfect brewing temperature for the duration of the brew, and brews ample amounts of coffee very quickly.

Things to Consider When Buying an Automatic Coffee Maker

There are many reasons you might need an automatic coffee maker at home or work.

Sometimes a pour over or french press just don’t cut it due to the amount of work involved or the difficulty in getting just the right cup of coffee.

Or maybe you just want your brew to happen automatically. With an automatic coffee maker, simply add ground coffee to the filter, add water to the tank and voila! Magic starts to happen.

Some of you might want a lot of coffee all at once. An automatic coffee pot can typically make between 8-12 cups of coffee at once.

It’s much easier to brew for family or coworkers this way, unless you really want to brew that many pour overs.

For the rest of you, consistency may be the key.

A good drip machine will be able to brew coffee the exact same way every time. So you can expect the same quality coffee everyday.

With a manual brew such as a pour over, or even with a semi-automatic espresso machine, there is so much human involvement and room for error that each cup will be slightly (if not drastically) different.

So whether you are lazy or just want consistency in your coffee, you might prefer an automatic coffee maker.

Pro Tip: there are multiple coffee drinkers in the house and you only want to brew once, again, an automatic coffee pot will be your saving grace.

The Oxo On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker Review

Oxo Coffee Maker

So you decided you needed to upgrade your morning coffee routine.

Is the Oxo coffee maker the right machine for you? If you want your coffee to taste great, every time, then yes.

But beware, this brewer is priced pretty high. This isn’t your Grandma’s Mr. Coffee machine.

Why does this brewer come with a high price tag?

Well for starters, it’s one of the few automatic coffee machines certified by the SCAA.

The Specialty Coffee Association of America is the voice of high quality coffee. If they say something's good, it’s good.

To receive this certification, a coffee maker must go through rigorous testing and meet a very specific set of standards.

This certification means that this coffee brewer is going to produce consistently great coffee every time.

On top of all that, this machine it is also BPA free - which hard to find.

  • SCAA Certified for high quality, consistent brews.
  • Water kept at optimal brewing temperature for the duration of the brew cycle.
  • Minimal design looks sleek on the counter and makes brewing simple.
  • Brew cycle replicates a pour over by distributing water in timed cycles rather than pouring water on all at once.
  • Double walled carafe keeps your coffee hot without burning it on a heat plate.

  • High price tag might be out of reach for some people.

Variable Control

The Oxo Coffee Maker boasts its ability to regulate the 3 main variables in coffee brewing: time, temperature and volume.

The brewer maintains an ideal water temperature of 197.6 - 204.8 degrees Fahrenheit during the duration of the brew.

The problem with other brewers and especially manual brewing options is that the water temperature greatly decreases over time as you are brewing.

So an ordinary brewer might start out by adding water that’s 205, but finish by adding water at 185 (which is below the recommended brewing temperature of 195-205).

The Oxo Barista Brain has a computer controlled brew cycle - meaning it will produce the same amount of coffee in the same amount of time, every time.

It mimics a pour over by distributing water in timed cycles.

Once you choose your cup size, the water pump automatically adjusts to produce the correct amount of coffee.

You can expect the same, high quality cup of coffee from day to day.

Attractive Design

Let’s face it, many coffee makers are outdated and look terrible on your kitchen counter.

Nobody respects you for having that thrift store coffee maker sitting there, like you are still a broke college student.

The Oxo coffee maker was made in the 21st century and looks great on any kitchen counter.

It has a minimal, modern design that can go with just about anything. You will be proud to show off this coffee maker.

Vacuum Insulated Carafe

The stainless steel, vacuum insulated carafe is designed not only to look great but also to keep your coffee hot for a long time.

The problem with a glass coffee pot is that it typically sits on top of a warming plate. The warming plate continues to “cook” the coffee and produces a burned, unappealing tasting coffee.

The steel carafe is designed to keep your coffee perfectly hot for a long time without burning the coffee.

Plus it’s easy to clean, so it won’t always smell like old coffee.

Alternatives to the Oxo On 9 Cup Coffee Maker

I don’t know about you, but I think this coffee maker sounds pretty cool. But hey, we’re all different. This might not be the one for you, and that’s okay.

If that’s the case, what should you consider?

How about one of these 3 brewers, all certified by the SCA as well.

Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup Carafe Coffee Brewer

Bonavita Coffee Brewer

The Bonavita Coffee Brewer is the least expensive of the bunch, but that doesn’t mean it’s a cheap brewer.

This coffee maker has a large shower head for optimal saturation of the coffee grounds.

It also provides a preinfusion option, giving you the ability to let your fresh coffee degas before the brew kicks into high gear.

While not quite as sleek as the Oxo brewer, this machine competes in quality and has room for a little more variation. Full review here.

Moccamaster KBT 10-Cup Coffee Brewer

Moccamaster Coffee Brewer

The Moccamaster happens to be the most expensive brewer on the list, and for good reason. These brewers are handmade in the Netherlands for guaranteed quality and performance.

It’s frequently described as one of the best, if not the best coffee makerout there. It’s durable and fully recyclable (hopefully you never need to dispose of it, though).

The copper heating element ensures the right temperature every single time, during the entire brew. We took a closer look at the moccamaster here.

Behmor Brazen Plus Temperature Control Coffee Maker

Behmor Brazen Coffee Brewer

Behmor is a company known for its home coffee roasters, but now they have their own brewer as well - the 'Brazen'

The build is closer to a traditional coffee pot; vertical as opposed to the side by side layout of all other brewers listed here. It’s taller, but takes up less space on the countertop.

It also has quite a few buttons allowing you to customize your brew to add preinfusion and pulsed water flow.

With a medium price tag, programmability and a reusable filter, this may be the brewer calling your name.

THE VERDICT: Is the Oxo on Barista Brain Right for You?
