How to Make The Signature Tropical Mocha: Hot

Step #1. Start with the Chocolate

Put a little bit (1/2 teaspoon) of hot water into the chocolate powder or hot chocolate mix to make a paste.

Step #2. Make It Hot, Hot, Hot

Warm your milk. You can steam this if you have an espresso machine with a steamer; you can use a standalone milk frother, or you can go old school by gently heating the milk on your stovetop and whisking it up a bit.

Step #3. Mix It Up

Add the hot milk and espresso to your mug, and stir in the chocolate paste. Make sure it is fully blended.

Step #4. Make It Creamy and Ice-Creamy

Add the coconut cream and use your whisk to make sure it is blended in. Then add the scoop of vanilla bean ice cream to your mug.

Step #5. Get Fancy

Dust the desiccated coconut and chocolate powder across the top of the mug.

Step #6. Embrace the (Tropical) Moment

Throw on your Hawaiian shirt and flip flops, sit back and dream of a tropical island far, far away as you sip on this deliciously beautiful drink.

Even if there is snow outside, you will feel all warm and toasty in your soul.

The Boozy Option

You can add a shot of coconut rum, coffee liqueur (like Kahlua) or other alcohol to this drink to make it more of an ‘adult’ treat.

And for those of you who are hard core and want to make the coffee liqueur yourself, check out how here.

How to Make The Signature Tropical Mocha: Cold

Step #1. Express the Espresso

To make the cold version of this beautiful beverage, make the espresso a couple of hours early if you can, so you can chill it in the refrigerator.

Step #1a. Chill Out

Another option for this is to use cold brew coffee or its concentrate. It has a slightly different taste, but is still delicious.

And, you can get some great cold brew concentrates in grocery stores these days. Station Cold Brew has a lot of fans and comes highly recommended.

Step #2. Embrace the Romance of Chocolate and Espresso

Combine the two teaspoons of chocolate powder (this should be high quality cocoa powder or hot chocolate mix, if you prefer it sweeter) with the espresso.

Make sure you mix this up well.

You can use a whisk to make sure it’s really blended.

Step #3. Go (Coco)nuts!

Add in the coconut cream and make sure it is fully blended with the chocolate/espresso mixture.

Not sure what coconut cream is?

You’re not alone. This description explains it clearly.

Use a whisk to blend this in. Coconut cream is a thicker consistency, it needs to be blended in properly.

Step #4. Get the Scoop!

Add the milk and the scoop of vanilla bean ice cream to all of the other ingredients (including sugar, if that’s your preference. Do a taste test before adding the sugar – you may not need it).

Step #5. Dust It Up

Make it pretty by dusting the desiccated coconut and chocolate powder across the top.

Step #6. Take Your Mini-Vacay to the Tropics

Put on some Jimmy Buffet, Jack Johnson or Bob Marley tunes, sit back and taste the tropics.

This drink is like taking a mini-vacation, you’ll come back refreshed and re-energized.

Be careful though, once your guests try this – they might not leave.
