The EcoVessel Perk Insulated Stainless Steel Coffee Bottle Review

The vacuum insulated bottle market is chock full of offerings. EcoVessel attempts to distinguish themselves from the competition with their TriMax Triple Insulation.

But is this just hot air, or does the bottle stay cool under pressure? Keep reading to find out!

Summary: EcoVessel Perk

  • Triple insulation keeps hot drinks hot for up to 8 hours
  • Push-button lid for one-handed use
  • It’s 100% recyclable

EcoVessel has a simple goal in mind, to replace wasteful, single-use plastic bottles with insulated bottles made from stainless steel. Bottles that can keep your coffee steaming hot and bottles that can keep your water icy cold.

The Perk by Eco Vessel Review

The Perk from EcoVessel promises to make your commutes better by offering the convenience of one handed operation and a lockable lid. The best part is that the bottle is 100% recyclable. But how well does it perform as a daily coffee thermos?

Design – 3.5/5

The EcoVessel Perk has a relatively bland design, which doesn’t help it stand out in this saturated market. You can buy it a variety of colors, though. The 16-oz model is available in 6 colors (5 matte finish powder-coated colors and brushed stainless steel), while the 20-oz is only available in 4 colors (3 matte finish powder coated colors and brushed stainless steel).

If you want more capacity, you can get one of EcoVessel’s larger insulated water bottles and screw on the Perk’s lid on it as all of their lids are interchangeable. However, at the time of publishing, you cannot buy the Perk’s flip-top lid separately, so you will have to buy 2 bottles.

The BPA-free lid screws onto the bottle and has a button that you can push to flip up the sipping hole cover.

It also has an integrated lock, in case you want to carry the bottle in your bag or cup holder.

The triple insulated stainless steel bottle comes with a silicone bumper on the bottom, which prevents dents if you accidentally drop it. It also has the added advantage of muffling sound when you put it on a hard surface.

Performance – 4/5

Eco Vessel advertises that the Perk’s TriMax triple insulation will keep hot drinks hot for 8 hours, and cold drinks cold for 36 hours. That’s a tall claim for a vacuum-insulated bottle. As per Futurism’s explanation on thermoses: (1)

A vacuum flask is nothing but a bottle inside a bottle separated by a vacuum.

So EcoVessel has put a thin layer of copper in between the vacuum-insulated inner and outer stainless steel walls. Despite the company’s claims, the Perk is a middle of the pack performer when it comes to insulation. However, its relatively small size means that you will be able to finish drinking your coffee long before it cools down.

Just don’t expect hot coffee at the end of the day if you filled the bottle in the morning.

The flip-style lid with an air vent makes for easy one-handed drinking. While most of the heat is lost through the lid, it is leak-proof once locked.

EcoVessel has included a removable strainer, which might be handy if you’re infusing fruit in your water bottle. It also serves as an effective ice dam if you prefer ice-cold drinks. Oddly, though, EcoVessel says it doesn’t strain loose leaf tea. (2)

The only downside is that the lid doesn’t disassemble for cleaning, and the company recommends that you hand-wash the bottle.

Value For Money – 4/5

EcoVessel products are generally not as affordable as other coffee thermoses. However, if you are flexible in your choice of color, there may be considerable cost savings to be had.

EcoVessel offers a 100-year warranty, but the fine print of the warranty indicates that after a year, loss of insulation warranty claims “will be determined on a case by case basis.” On the plus side, all EcoVessel products are 100% recyclable, and they donate 5% of their sales to nonprofits (3), so you’ll be doing your bit for the environment if you purchase the Perk.

You want a bottle that stands out in the crowd – If you want a bottle that has a distinct identity, the EcoVessel isn’t the ideal choice. The Hydro Flask Coffee Flask is a modern fashion icon and a social media darling. And it performs just as well when it comes to insulation. Another option is the Zojirushi travel mug, which we reviewed here.

You want the best possible insulation – Sip-through lids and one-handed operation are convenient features, but they come at the cost of insulation. If you want your coffee to stay hot all day, then the Stanley Classic Legendary thermos is your best choice. Its unparalleled durability and stellar insulation definitely wowed us.

The Verdict On The EcoVessel Perk – 3.8/5

As vacuum-insulated bottles go, its insulation is good, but not class-leading. The build quality is decent, but its styling is uninspired. Don’t get us wrong; we really like this coffee thermos as it offers good value for money.

I can sum up myself in a few words: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu aficionado, food lover, historian, traveler, and coffee drinker. Unless I’m doing multi-day backpacking hikes, I always travel with a portable espresso maker…and there have been a few multi-day hikes where I’ve snuck it into my pack anyway. Starting my day with an espresso or three after sleeping on the ground is the best way to feel human again.
